Save the Date: Sushi Rolling 2013

Save the date!! Our annual Sushi Rolling event date has been set for Nov. 23rd!

The main purpose of this event is to welcome back the newly returned JETs and to network with one another but everyone studying Japanese, who is Japanese, did the JET Program, teaches Japanese, or just plain loves Japan is welcome to come!

Please join us in enjoying delicious sushi made from your own two hands! We will have our awesome sushi chef, Akira Shirai, back again this year to teach us the mastery skills of making sushi. Ask him to teach you how to make a roll with the rice on the outside if you haven’t already. Very cool!

Also, we plan on having our calligraphy sensei, Mamiko Ikeda, back again this year for the latter part of the event to teach us how to write our names, favorite kanji (Chinese characters), etc in the elegant brush strokes that is Japanese calligraphy. Come try it out and then make a nice finalized piece of artwork for yourself!

We also have other components for the event that are in the works as well. Stay tuned as we “unroll” the rest of the details for the sushi rolling!

WHEN: Saturday, November 23, 1pm – 4pm

WHERE: Simpson United Methodist Church (

FEE: $5.00 for JET alumni paying in advance, $7.00 at the door

Tsukimi Moon Viewing Picnic

Flood Update: Chautauqua Park is open and Tsukimi will go forward as planned! See you on Saturday!

RMJETAA will be celebrating the (near) full moon with a Tsukimi celebration in Boulder!

When: Saturday, Sept 21, 2013, 6:00pm

Where: Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado (map)

As some of you may know, in Japan on a full moon evening in the fall they celebrate tsukimi or 月見 (lit. moon viewing). We would like to do the same and enjoy a nice potluck picnic at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, where amazing views can be seen!

So grab your picnic blankets, Japanese okashi (snacks), tsukimi dango (rice dumplings), Japanese sake, small snacky items, etc and meet us at the park to celebrate a cool, crisp autumnal full moon evening together, Japanese style! RMJETAA WILL BE PROVIDING FREE JAPANESE FOOD AS LONG AS YOU BRING A SMALL DISH OF SOMETHING TO CONTRIBUTE! =)

This event is free and open to the public so feel free to invite any interested friends and family!! Please DON’T bring any glass bottles, as the park doesn’t allow it. The park officially closes at 11pm.

We hope to see you and others there! =)
